If you can’t be around to watch your dumpster at all times, let your neighbors know you have one and ask them to be watchful of the area in your absence. Good neighbors will help you with this task, and the bad ones will know you are aware of the potential for illegal dumping.
Another strategy is to go the opposite route. If you only have a small project, you can save money by getting a few neighbors to go in on a dumpster rental together. Most people have junk somewhere that needs disposed of so at least one neighbor should take you up on this deal.
Awareness
Check your dumpster each day for illegally dumped items. If you notice anything unusual, search the garbage for any identifying labels or tags and call local law enforcement. If you don’t notice any identifying markings, it’s still a good idea to inform the local authorities of the issue especially if you have the dumpster for a few more days. Police may choose to increase the patrols in your area which could deter some people from illegally dumping.
