Many people make the mistake of underestimating how much they will actually be discarding and rent a size that doesn’t fit everything, resulting in them needing to rent additional dumpsters to finish the job. By carefully considering how much you’ll be throwing out, you can get a larger size, potentially saving you hundreds of dollars.
6. Not Preparing the Site
Before you bring in your dumpster, it is helpful to prepare the site you’re working with. The best way to do that is to go through your items prior to bringing in your rental. This allows you to carefully consider what you need and what can be tossed out. After you do that, corral items to be discarded into a single area that is convenient and near where the dumpster will be. This may help you judge the size of dumpster you need in addition to cutting back the working time needed while renting – saving you valuable time and money.
7. Misjudging Timing
A dumpster should be onsite just as long as you need it – and no longer than that. In most cases, rental companies allow you to keep their bin for between 5 to 7 days, but a typical homeowner only needs it for 3 days. 8. Disposing of Hazardous Materials
One of the great things about dumpsters is the ability to throw nearly anything away – but there are a few exceptions. Hazardous waste is one of them. Motor oil, gasoline, cleaning chemicals, pesticides, propane tanks, paint, batteries, lightbulbs, tires, and aerosol cans are all considered hazardous waste and should not be thrown out in a dumpster. These items could result in additional fines from your rental company.
