People often wonder– Why can’t you just list your dumpster rental prices on your website? This is a good question with a complicated answer. Dumpster rental pricing has to take many different factors into account before we can quote a price. Here are some of the factors involved.
Size of the Dumpster
At Circle J Roll-Offs, we offer several different dumpster sizes, including 10, 20, 30, and 40-yard dumpsters. The larger the dumpster, the more trash it contains and needs to be disposed of. Landfills charge us for the amount of waste we dispose of, which is a factor in the dumpster rental price.
Type of Waste to Dispose of
Different types of trash get disposed of in different ways. This is why some landfills only take one kind of trash while others take almost anything. For example, a lot of construction waste can be recycled. So if your disposal need includes a lot of concrete, brick, and untreated wood you might get a better rental rate for it.
Hazardous or Non-Hazardous
Obviously, hazardous waste must be treated with care and disposed of properly. Waste such as contaminated soil must be separated from non-hazardous waste by putting it in a specially lined dumpster which prevents it from leaking out and contaminating other, non-hazardous waste or the environment around it. As you might imagine, it costs more for us to dispose of hazardous waste.
Overfilling the Dumpster
A full dumpster is one where the waste within it doesn’t appear above the walls of that dumpster. When the dumpster is filled beyond the brim with additional waste, not only does it add to the overall weight and volume of the trash that needs to be removed, but it also is hazardous for our roll-off dumpster trucks to haul away. Trash above the rim can easily fall out when transporting it, creating a safety hazard for the roll-off truck driver and anyone else who travels near it to the proper landfill.
Disposing of Something Different Than Is in the Rental Agreement
This is also known as cross-contamination. Different types of waste are taken to different landfills at distinct locations. As stated above, the cost to dispose of different types is not a flat rate. If you cross-contaminate a load of recyclable construction waste with a few cubic yards of contaminated soil, the entire load must be considered hazardous waste. And because everything you put into a dumpster must be removed, you cannot hide trash that doesn’t belong in the dumpster among the waste that you declared to be in there.
