Roll-off dumpsters have two basic designs—the open roll-off dumpster and the closed roll-off dumpster—for compactors. Roll-off dumpsters are named as such because they are “rolled off” from a hauling truck at a delivery location and then picked up once the roll-off dumpster has been filled, removing the rubbish within for disposal.
When people think of dumpsters, they typically think of open-top roll-off dumpsters. Open roll-off dumpsters are loaded from the top or through the back door. These are most commonly seen at construction and demolition sites but are often used for residential waste removal projects as well.
Prices for this service can be one total lump sum price with a weight limit and overage rates, or they can be a breakdown of pick-up, rental, and disposal fees for specific driving distances.

Closed roll-off containers are used with stationary compactors. Closed on the top, they are loaded through the end via a compactor. The compactor remains fixed, but when the roll-off dumpster attached to it is full, it is detached and taken away for disposal.
