Last week, we discussed several scenarios in which dumpster rental could be of use. This week, we will cover several others.
Business Accommodations
There are several scenarios where you may need a dumpster for your business. For day-to-day business operations, consider renting a dumpster-in-a-bag. Some businesses opt to use a 10-yard dumpster for regular operation to handle disposal of larger items. This also helps eliminate the number of pickups necessary. For a smaller demolition or new construction project on a business, a 20-yard dumpster can handle most items involved in the renovation.
General Construction & Demolition Projects
A dumpster is a must for demolition projects. For a demolition phase of a smaller project, a 30-yard dumpster is needed to handle the heavier materials such as drywall, plaster, concrete, siding, roofing, and sub flooring. During the reconstruction phase, a 20-yard dumpster is a good choice. And for the finishing phase, a dumpster in a bag or 10-yard dumpster can handle any waste generated from painters, electricians, and carpenters.
However, for a full home demolition, you will need a lot more dumpster space. On average, it takes between eight and twelve 30-yard dumpsters to cleanup from a full demolition of a 1,200 square foot house. However, 40-yard dumpsters can be cost effective if you are loading with a Bobcat or Excavator.
Construction projects also benefit from having an on-site dumpster available. For both residential and commercial construction jobs, 30-yard dumpsters are the most preferred as they can handle the weight and volume of most construction debris. 30-yard dumpsters are generally around 6 feet tall, 22 feet long, and 8 feet wide making this dumpster an easier one to load after the back gate is closed. While 40-yard dumpsters may sound more cost efficient for construction, they stand a lot taller at 8 feet tall making it harder for workers to load. This can contribute to wasted space and money.
Additional Tips
Choosing the appropriately sized dumpster for your project is critical. Cramming fifteen yards of garbage in a 10-yard container will not work and will end up costing you substantially more because a pick-up and re-drop will be required to complete the project. Ultimately, overestimating the amount of dumpster space you need is always a safer bet than being more conservative.
It is also important to remember not to overfill your dumpster. While it may be tempting to pile debris over the top of the container, don’t try it. Overfilling a dumpster is considered a road hazard and the dumpster service cannot legally haul the container. Many drivers will simply leave the job site and not pick up the dumpster until it’s been leveled off, resulting in an extra charge.
