Even the smallest roll off dumpsters are pretty large. So how is an empty roll off dumpster delivered once you have decided to rent one? It depends on the size of the dumpster overall.
All roll off dumpsters are delivered via roll-off trucks. The roll off truck has a hydraulic bed that raises and lowers. When the roll off truck arrives at its destination, it simply raises the hydraulic bed, and the dumpster rolls off the bed to where a cable eases it down to its final designated location. For some of the smaller dumpsters, such as 10 and 20-yard dumpsters, the roll off truck might use a lift-hook system to gradually lower the dumpster directly from the truck bed to the ground.
How Full Roll Off Dumpsters Are Loaded
Once the roll off dumpster is full or the project has been completed, the customer calls the dumpster rental company for pickup. The roll off trucks retrieve the dumpster in one of two ways.
- The roll off truck lowers the hydraulic bed and then uses a cable and winch system to “drag” the roll off container onto the truck.
- The roll off truck uses lift-hook system to extend a 90-degree arm with a hook at the end which attaches to a bar on the dumpster and then gently lifts the dumpster onto the truck.
Most hook-lift systems are used on smaller, single axle roll off trucks that are used to deliver 10 and 20-yard dumpsters. These sizes of dumpster are the most popular choice because they are big enough for projects such as roofing replacement, interior remodeling projects, and large-scale garage, attic, and basement cleanouts. These dumpsters are easier to transport and place in residential areas as well.
